The graduation ceremony is the ceremonial culmination of studies. Every year, all graduates of the Faculty includinf dentistry, medical and medical rescue Programs gather together with their families, guests, teachers and university authorities to celebrate this moment and take an oath.

This year’s ceremony will be held on October 28 at the “Dom Muzyki i Tańca” in Zabrze. Please contact the representative of the year for organizational matters regarding this event

Based on the Act on the Profession of Physician and Dentist, the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice offers its graduates of medical and dental studies conducted in English the opportunity to implement a 6-month practical training that corresponds to the scope of the clinical part of the postgraduate internship program.

The internship can be completed no later than 2 years from the day of obtaining a degree in Medicine or Dentistry.

The Doctoral School of the Medical University of Silesia (SUM) is the largest doctoral school among medical universities in Poland. Education is conducted in three disciplines: medical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and health sciences.

The mission of the Doctoral School of SUM is to create and develop conditions for expanding the scientific and research competencies of doctoral students within the framework of scientific research. It also aims to educate doctoral students based on a diverse and well-qualified academic staff at a European level, to foster new skills, knowledge, and innovative solutions in the field of medical and health sciences.

The Doctoral School of SUM offers doctoral students the opportunity to participate in projects aimed at scientific development, including, among others, initiatives under the Metropolitan Science Support Fund, European Funds for Silesia for 2021–2027, Fulbright Foundation programs – such as the Inter Country Travel Grant and the Fulbright Specialist Program – as well as projects supported by the National Science Centre (Preludium BIS), the National Agency for Academic Exchange, and international research internships through the ERASMUS+ program.

Education at the Doctoral School:

  • is conducted in a full-time (stationary) format
  • lasts four years
  • is free of charge
  • classes specified in the Education Program are held once a week, 2–3 times a month
  • doctoral students carry out professional practice by conducting classes with students: 10 hours in the 1st year and 60 hours in years 2–4
  • each doctoral student who does not hold a doctoral degree receives a monthly doctoral scholarship: 37% of the promoter’s salary during the first two years, and 57% after a mid-term evaluation
  • scientific supervision is provided by a supervisor appointed by the Director based on the doctoral student’s request, starting from the beginning of education
  • within 12 months of starting, the doctoral student, together with the supervisor, develops an Individual Research Plan (IRP), the implementation of which is evaluated mid-way through the program
  • education concludes with the submission of a doctoral dissertation, with the deadline specified in the IRP

Admission:
Admission to the Doctoral School for each academic year takes place through a competitive process between June and August, conducted electronically.
